As of today the "reply" button in the comment section on any youtube video has stopped working, Usually it brings up an input field when clicked, but now I get nothing except a blue glow around the button (cropped picture of what I see)

So far I have attempted the following with no success

  • restarting firefox
  • restarting the computer
  • reinstalling latest version of flash

The button works if I access a video page through internet explorer, but I despise that browser.

Alright, it seems to be fixed.

Steps I took are as follows

  • Delete my G+ account (you should be able to do this somewhere at plus.google.com )
  • Once deleted, you should see "+You" in the grey bar at the top when you are on google websites instead of "+<your name>
  • Sign out and back into youtube.

I hope anyone else with the same issue finds this useful.

Hi,

You can try a Ctrl + F5 refresh of the page. This helps to bring in the contents afresh. If the problem persists, please check if this happens in Safe Mode. Safe mode disables the installed Extensions, and themes (Appearance) in Tools (Alt + T) > Add-ons. Hardware acceleration is also temporarily disabled - the manual setting is Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Use hardware acceleration when available. All these settings/options/add-ons can also be individually or collectively disabled/enabled/changed in Firefox normal mode to check if an extension, theme, option or hardware acceleration is causing issues. Disabling/enabling hardware acceleration, and some types of add-ons in normal mode may require a Firefox restart.

Refreshing with ctrl+F5 does not fix my problem Running safe mode does not fix my problem

You can try to disable Flash acceleration by right-clicking on a video and refresh the page. You can also try to temporarily access problematic sites inside Firefox using IE Tab + or IE Tab. Alternatively you can Disable Flash in Tools (Alt + T) > Add-ons > Plugins and try to access the HTML5 video. If the video doesn't have embedded ads then most likely there will be a webm HTML5 video version.

The videos works like they used to, I have no problems seeing the video or using any buttons or features in the video window (like volume, pause/play etc.)

The problem I'm having is with the comment section of youtube, I am unable to use the "reply" button in firefox, I tried the IE tab + addon you suggested, but it doesn't fix my issue (in fact it breaks the video because it doesn't seem to work with flash, but I don't plan on using this addon anyway, so that doesn't matter)

The IE Tab problem with flash I seem to have fixed by reinstalling flash through IE, but regardless, my original problem still remains.

It seems to be okay here on Firefox, the hidden comment reply box opens and closes normally when clicked on Reply. Is it still working in Internet Explorer??

more options

Yes, it works in Internet explorer still.

However, I tried in Google Chrome and it seems to not work there either with the exact same problem occurring. so I'm going to try youtube support since it seems to be cross-browser.

Thanks for trying anyway.

No problem :) If a solution is found you can post it here and mark it which could help a lot of users in a similar situation.

It's definitely not a browser issue, seems to be account based. I asked the same question on the youtube help forums if anyone else is looking for a solution to the same problem.( http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!category-topic/youtube/how-to-use-youtube-features/saaXgob53MM )

Although nothing has been fixed yet :(

Best I can tell, it is definitely account based, and specific to a new thing I saw today.

In my main account, I went to reply to a post, and I received a popup today asking me to use my REAL NAME in my youtube posts. I declined. The reply button did not work after that. Logged in, out, in out. Nothing. Restart browser, nothing. Restart PC, nothing. I was using Chrome. Tried FF and IE, same.

So, I logged in with another account of mine. Went to reply to a post on that account, same deal; a popup asking me to use my full name. I accepted the Full Name. Reply worked great. Logged out, back into my other account where I did not accept full name, reply did not work.

Someone else can verify this by accepting the use of their full name and see if the Reply works.

I was never asked to use full name. It may be related, but it's not the entire story.

Alternatively: Go into your youtube settings. Click "Advanced" just right of your photo. Find the option to use your real name: "Begin using my full name on YouTube"

Did you try to clear the cookies from that site?

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
more options

Yes to both, doesn't help any.

more options

Try to create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

See:

If it still happens with a new, unmodified, profile then it is more likely a problem with the website or with security software on your computer.

Is this not basically the same as running firefox in safe mode?

All I can say is this is definitely it for me.

I caved in on my acceptance of using my real name as my user name on Yourtube, and poof, it's all starting to work. BUT, a few things: 1. I am unable to revert it, or find where to revert it, despite Google's big notice stating I could. I'm pissed. 2. The G+ profile is merged with youtube, and the option on the dropdown (where I would normally find my "inbox" link has changed. In fact, I cannot find the youtube settings page anymore, as it takes me to my Google+ profile page settings. This is rubbish.

Try these links, that's what I get when I go there.

UPDATE: I did find the Youtube settings page, and did find the revert, although it is worded funny on the Revert "Change your Channel Name", which I did not ever really change. Upon reverting back to using my username, the reply stops working again. Serious bug.

more options

What's even more crap about this is your old posts are not updated with your name. So new reply posts look like (on first glace without a user clicking on the user name of old posts vs Real name of new posts to see they are the same) that the posts are coming from two different users. Just messy all the way around... and frustrating that I cannot continue my convos today without surrendering my privacy.
