history privacy settings will not change
I have followed all the action regarding privacy settings on these help pages & done the action required but does not solve my problem:
1) Open Options by clicking Tools to get into the Privacy Settings & 2) On going to the History section I want to change the settings to: "Use custom settings for History" 3) This will not change. It keeps going back to: "Never Remember History" when I want it to "Use custom etc".
I have followed all the points in other threads but still no joy.
Can anyone let me know how to change it please? (yes I have opened Firefox as "use as administrator")

You should look at the article How to fix preferences that won't save. Firefox might not be able to write to the pref.js file.

Hi, Thank you for your reply & I have tried all of the "problem solutions" mentioned in the link you gave me.
There is only one prefs.js file in my Firefox folder so there are no other files to delete.
The second action to "hold ctrl & get info" did not work for me unless I am doing something wrong.
The only think I can think of which may help is to uninstall Firefox & reinstall it.
Unless there is another solution?
If "Never Remember History" gets selected then that means that you are in Private Browsing mode.
The "Use custom settings for history" setting doesn't do anything on its own, but is merely used to access the history settings and make changes. The "Use custom settings for history" only stays selected if at least one of the history and cookie settings isn't the default.
Hi, Thanks for your reply but I do not tick the "private browsing " box.
I click the ""use custom settings etc" & all the other boxes come up which are ticked by default but when "ok" is clicked Firefox options returns to the "never remember history" again. I've even closed Firefox & reopened it & the result is the same. I am typing this in safe mode because another problem has started, and that is Firefox hangs or freezes after a few mins.
You should only see "Never remember history" if "Always use private browsing mode" is shown as selected if you choose user settings to inspect the details.
Hi, I am still having the same problem although I have not checked this thread for a while, so if anyone had the same problem & solved it, please let me know. The private browsing mode is not selected yet Firefox still goes to the "never remember history".
