At the request of firefox, I am continully downloading updates to firefox but non are registering ?

You should be able to update using
- Firefox Button -> Help -> About Firefox -> [Update ]
that will currently update you to the latest supported version of firefox 3.6 the point release is 3.6.23, and will soon be 3.6.24 - If you wish to update to the current release Firefox 7.0.1 (Soon to become Firefox 8) download the install file
- for example from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/products/download.html

You may need to ensure that you are using an admin account or have UAC set correctly, and that any security software is not blocking downloads or changes to the system.
