You posted with Firefox 3.6.16, so you have a desktop shortcut that opens that version. You need to create a new desktop shortcut to start the Firefox 4 version.

Did you ever install a Firefox 4 beta version?

Updating the Firefox 3.6.x version should have replaced Firefox 3.6.x with Firefox 4. If that didn't happen then the installation may have been unsuccessful.
