Tab Grouping app replacement or work-around

I am trying to migrate from a very old version of Firefox (v. 55) to the current one, but there is an app that is more helpful to me that all the other features combined. That is the "Tab Grouping" app that will not run in any version of FF higher than v. 55.

In my work, which often includes a tremendous amount of research, I need to be able to quickly go from one group of tabs to another. If I had to open all these sites manually, that would take the better part of the day and frankly I don't have near the mental capacity to remember the tremendous number of tabs. I have had a couple replies (Thanks!) to this question sometime back, but unfortunately none were even close in performance.

So, can anyone direct me to an app that will allow very quick movement from different sets of windows/tab groups (please see screen shots below)? Is there anyway that I can get this app to work in Legacy mode? I have several other old apps that work perfectly well in this mode.

I do recall that option in Firefox, but it went away. To be honest, there is nothing better than Chrome when it comes to tabs groups and the option to name windows. I use it work all the time. I create windows, give that window a name, and I create tab groups based on the users name I'm building computers. The KILLER is that the tab groups can expand and close with a click!!! IT'S GREAT!!! Something Firefox should work on getting.  ;-))

Looking at your 2nd screenshot with all the windows, that's similar to my setup, but each of my windows have a computer model name. Go try it in Chrome!

Thanks for the feedback. However, I am very reluctant to go w/ Chrome or any of the other browsers as they are little more than tracking cookie/spyware that disguise themselves as browsers. For example, I have an anti-tracker app that I run daily. If I use FF, there are only a few tracking cookies and they all seem directly related to FF functionality. If I use Chrome for even one day, there will be 450+ tracking cookies!

I hear you, but who do you think pay bills? Google. Remember, behind any Organization(.org), someone is paying the bills.

Hi Wolfgang, in your other thread about Simple Tab Groups you wrote:

Thanks for the suggestion, but as far as I can tell, the app only does what FF does in the "Save Windows and Tabs from last time". I need to make new windows on the fly as in the screenshot 2 I sent in. Tried installing this app in my FF Developers Edition, v. 121, so I can still use the app in the old FF v. 55.

The feature of creating groups of tabs within a window and showing/hiding different groups is not a built-in feature. However, you do need to restore previous tabs automatically to retain your data from one session to the next.

You can create new windows (Ctrl+N), but from what I can see, the tabs in that window cannot be in the same group as tabs from a different window.

For best results, use the Simple Tab Groups sidebar. I don't know whether it has its own shortcut, but if you use Ctrl+B to show the Bookmarks Sidebar, you can then click the Bookmarks heading to switch to the STG sidebar.

I have no idea of what you are saying. It is my impression that FF is a self-sustaining app that relies on contributions, ads, etc. Regardless, my apprehension re. using Google remains - it is spyware in my opinion and experience. Wolfgang

It wasn't really an option in FF, but rather an add-on. Definitely agree that there should be an add-on to do the same job. It's a real pain having to go to the current Developer's Edition for many links to work, but the ease in research that the old FF 55 w/ the "Tab Groups" app is so great that I still use it most of the time.

HELP! Any developers out there that can supply a solution to this problem?

Thanks, Wolfgang

I have installed the Simple Tab Groups app, but cannot find any info on how to actually use it. It might provide the support I need if I were intellectually-gifted enough to find out how to use the darn thing works! Wolfgang
