I am experiencing an extraordinarily strange issue. I have reinstalled windows on to new SSD drive to troubleshoot and I have verified the problem is apparently Starfield+Firefox=problems. Specifically, when I run starfield it corrupts something in windows and prevents my Web Browsers from working forever afterward until I run system restore. I have done this 3 times now. As soon as I run Starfield, Mozilla Firefox starts crashing tabs and crashing on opening quickly and repeatedly. I have used system restore to restore my system on the new HD and it fixes Firefox. But when I run Starfield again, Mozilla becomes corrupted. I was using Mozilla Firefox because my Edge and Chrome won't run without status_access_violations every 5 to 10 minutes. But Mozilla Firefox ran flawlessly since June 2022 until I opened starfield. Aside from this, my PC is reliable, fast and stable. Starfield itself runs flawlessly and smooth in Ultra-Detail. I have a Core-I7 7700K, an RTX 2080 Super and 16gb of Gskill 3200 DDR4 ram on a Gigabyte GA-X170-SLI-CF motherboard. I DO NOT overclock any components as I prefer system reliability. Also I have had starfield since the early access release last Thursday August 31st and have been fighting my computer ever since with fresh windows installs on blank hard drives trying to fix this. I have run out of options. I am writing this to you on my Office Laptop as it doesn't have browser issues. Please route this report to the appropriate support personnel, thank you!

Edit, I also tried 3 different pairs of 8GB G-Skill DDR4 ram sticks. I have also tried the other channel. I am pretty sure its not the ram. If anything something with the motherboard, or possibly I need a bios update after some random windows update. I have seen that before too. But I am more looking for what variable could the 2 programs be sharing that opening one perma-bugs the other until a system restore is run.

Edit 2, Reply from Bethesda was that they seem to have closed the request with the comment "Thank you for your feedback.". As I said they didn't have any options to report a bug they create in a 3rd part program.

Scan for faulty RAM with Windows Memory Diagnostic tool or MemTest86.

I forgot to mention I tried spare sets of ram. Didn't seem to have any effect. In fact I have been running on a completely separate pair of DDR4 sticks since before I reformatted as it was the first thing I suspected too. So far I have tested 3 pairs of 8gb ram sticks. The reason I am asking here is because I am cultivating options. I suspect if Bethesda responds to my Support request, which they didn't really have an option for, they would say that it sounds like a Firefox or Hardware problem. I would agree that the errors with the other browsers would seem to be hardware related, but the fact that only the web browsers exhibit this problem and not the highly taxing game software is odd. Firefox did not have any issues for a year an a half after those issues began so I figured it was an incompatible windows update and I still suspect as much. As I said, Starfield doesn't have any problems or errors. Runs silky smooth in ultra detail. The problem is that after I run it, my Firefox is broken permanently and doesn't come out of it with a restart. I have to restore to a system restore point before Starfield was run. So the most effective answer would be, theoretically, what shared windows variable could running starfield be changing that Firefox is not liking? So far Bethesda has not answered, in the event that they do I will try to relay any thoughts they have for others with similar issues.

The problem sounds like Starfield and not Firefox browser. You need to contact Starfield since you already stated Firefox fun fine by itself.

Starfield is a game and not a company or application. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1716740/Starfield/

Starfield is a CPU heavy demanding game, especially if you want to get 60fps or above at 1440p and 4K resolutions.

The problem is that after I run it, my Firefox is broken permanently and doesn't come out of it with a restart. I have to restore to a system restore point before Starfield was run.

Instead of going back to a system restore point, try installing Developer Edition and see if that works.

Note that you should be cautious with using Windows System Restore as this also affects your personal data stored in the profile folder, so make sure to backup your personal data if you decide to go this route.

So it seems that I am closing in on the problem, and the problem is not starfield but something it installs on first run if you don't have it updated already. Starfield seems to install Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2015-2022. My 2015-2019 package works just fine but the moment I update to 2015-2022 version everything stops working. It seems this causes my Chrome and Edge to become even more destabilized than they were. Actually I seemingly got all 3 working well earlier today for about 3 hours before installing another 2 programs that installed the reinstalled the C++ Redistributables and broke all 3 programs again. So I restored and tried installing just the MS Visual C++ updates from the Microsoft site directly. This again broke everything so it is confirmed that the software that doesn't like my PC is the latest Visual C++ Runtimes. But while the other 2 browsers Chrome and Edge now run for 5 to 10 minutes before tab crashes. Firefox crashes on opening most of the time and when it doesn't it only runs until I have 3 or 4 tabs open. So so weird. One of my friends suggested it could be a front side bus issue on the Mobo and I am starting to think they could be right as this issue is so selective. Starfield itself works fine, but I am so annoyed that I need to run restore after using it that I have only played 2 hours in the past week. I think my next step will be to try Developer Edition as Zeroknight suggests. If that doesn't work I will probably assume its the motherboard and consider buying my brother's I7 9700K, 32gigs ram and a Z370 motherboard as he is upgrading to AMD and he just replaced his motherboard 2 months ago. If anyone has any further suggestions based on this new information, I am all ears. At this point I have reinstalled the C++ package 5 times and it breaks Firefox every time.

Would recommend a system file check with sfc /scannow.

You can also try testing in Windows Sandbox (requires Pro edition) and Windows Safe Mode.
