Hello everyone, I was here recently since nothing in Firefox wanted to load, but I fixed that by using old sessionstore.jsonlz4 so I guess that session was corrupted.

New problem: Everyday when I start my PC and Firefox it keeps crashing over and over until I use an old working sessionstore file again. So it seems that everytime Firefox tries to save my current session with nothing changed/ different from the backup it corrupts it and I have to use the old backup again - which obviously sucks since no matter what I open/ do today it will be "deleted" again tomorrow.

The only "interesting" thing the crash report shows is MozCrashReason: Failed to load critical module "resource://gre/modules/WebNavigation.jsm" but I will share the troubleshooting information below if that helps.

My only idea left is to save the most important tabs and wipe everything else off my Firefox to see if that helps - but if it doesnt then I have to restore my old session yet again and all progress is lost again no matter what I do.

Any ideas are appreciated especially since I didnt change anything relevant about my system or Firefox in recent times so I have no Idea where all of these problems come from all of a sudden.

You can rename sessionstore.jsonlz4 (sessionstoreOLD.jsonlz4) and rename the sessionstore-backups folder (sessionstore-backupsOLD) to prevent Firefox from restoring an old session to see if that works.

Note that in Windows "AppData" (Mac: ~/Library; Linux: ~/.mozilla) is a hidden folder.

You can consider to restore a recent upgrade.jsonlz4-<build_id> in the sessionstore-backups folder when available to you want to keep some (pinned) tabs.

You can look at this tool to inspect a compressed jsonlz4 sessionstore file. This tool works locally, no uploading done.

I already use an older sessionstore.jsonlz4 since all new ones that firefox creates dont work the next day, so I have to constantly delete the current sessionstore and switch it out for the upgrade.jsonlz4 or similar from a few days ago.

So renaming both sessionstore and the backups folder will help (as long as it doesnt corrupt the new ones made too so that they dont work the next day) but I want to keep using my old sessionstore with all my tabs and somehow get firefox to not corrupt it the next day so that I dont need to use backups everyday.

How many tabs and windows do you have opened in case this is caused by having a lot of windows open?

Use one of these to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox Title bar, especially if you have multiple windows open to prevent losing tabs in unnoticed windows.

  • "3-bar" menu button -> Exit (Power button)
  • Windows: File -> Exit
  • Mac: Firefox -> Quit Firefox
  • Linux: File -> Quit

I have a looot of tabs open but im very sure that thats not the problem, since my old working session has exactly as many tabs as the not working session.
