Firefox won't start, even after resetting PC

I have a brand new Lenovo laptop, has nothing on it. The first thing I tried to install was Firefox, and while the installation itself went fine, it only opened for a moment after finishing the installation before quitting by itself. I tried opening Firefox again, didn't work.

  • Note: I am able to install other programs from the Internet that do work, such as Zoom and Adobe Acrobat PDF Reader, so this is specifically related to Firefox.

I tried: Opening it Safe Mode, running Firefox as an administrator, uninstalled-and-reinstalled, trying three different Windows versions of Firefox (Windows 64bit, 64bit MSI, and 32bit, for the heck of it. They all did the same thing when run - nothing), and even reset the PC altogether, completely wiping all files and using a recovery USB to reinstall Windows. Once it finished, I tried installing Firefox again, and once again, it opened for a short moment before quitting, destroying the slightest glimmer of hope I had. I contacted Lenovo Premium Support, and they performed everything above, along with a super-wipe of Firefox using a program called Revo Uninstall Premium (they used a free trial). Nothing worked.

After all that, they suggested I contact Mozilla support, so here I am. Any idea as to how I can fix this?

Some problems occur when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;

  • Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
  • Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see

Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet. {web link}

You can check for issues caused by a corrupted or incomplete Visual C++ installation that is missing runtime components (Redistributable Packages) required by Firefox, especially VCRUNTIME140_1.dll.

See "Visual Studio 2015, 2017 and 2019":

You may not need the latter (32-bit version) if you use 64-bit Firefox. You may have to reboot the computer.

I updated my security software and have removed Firefox from the list of trusted programs, tried opening Firefox. No such luck (even after putting it back and trying again, after a system restart).

I downloaded the 64bit version in your first download link ( https://aka.ms/vs/16/release/vc_redist.x64.exe ), installed, and I noticed there are many different versions of that "VCRUNTIME140_1.dll" file you mentioned (see attached image).

What do you suggest I do from here?

If Firefox now runs fine with using the vc_redist.x64.exe installer then best is probably to leave it as is and not try to mess with it. Applications can install their own version of a DLL and use them if necessary or use the version installed in the OS like Firefox does.

Apologies, I should have clarified, this does not fix the problem, Firefox still refuses to open.
