Thunderbird
My latest d/l of Thunderbird does not work with Gmail in Firefox. I have set every possible configuration unless I missed something simple. I get "configureration not found" "'User name or password incorrect." "unable to log into server". My hair is falling out over this. My settings in Gmail are correct. Any help will be gladly appreciation. Marc

check your anti virus software firewall.
Thunderbird gets it's settings from the web here. https://autoconfig.thunderbird.net/v1.1/gmail.com
By far the most common reason for Thunderbird not finding the settings is because the firewall is blocking it reaching out to the internet for anything.
I turned off my antivirus program and still no luck. I don't understand the code you sent me. Do I have to copy it into a file? If so is it in the program files or the user files. Thanks a bunch Marc
I said firewall. Perhaps look at that component.
You are not expected to understand the content of the link. but clearly you can get there in your browser and Thunderbird can not. More evidence of firewall issues.
I went to windows fire wall with advanced settings. Clicked on new rule, program, gave the location of the file disabled firewall for Thunderbird. Am I on the right track? What settings should I use for Thunderbird. I'm an old O/S2 guy. Ran it for 25 years. Didn't have to worry about anything, it was bullet proof. PMmail beats Thunderbirds socks off. Thanks for all your help. I must seem like a dummy. Marc PS I'm installing Windows 10 pro tomorrow so I may not reply right away.
I cannot get Gmail to work with Firefox either, i am on Mac and having the same issue. I have confirmed that there are no firewall rules preventing access. Also pulling my hair out, been trying to find a fix for months, I thought I had it fixed but now apparently not.

Probably not, the anti virus products these days usually have their own firewall component. What is your anti virus?
I'm having the same problem in Windows 10. I haven't fiddled with the firewall settings yet though I see an icon for firewall in the control panel. Am I aiming in the right direction? I'm still setting up Windows to work the way I want it to. regards, Marc
