Despite all the help files I found in Firefox and all around the websites, I am still unable to record my passwords.

What did I missed?

It was so easy to change several versions ago... Please simplify instead of complexifying with so numerous options!

Try to enable signon logging by setting this pref to true on the about:config page.

  • signon.debug = true

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.

Then you can check the Browser Console for messages about the login manager.
