recently changed to Thunderbird and i can't get back to my in box

I am not used to Thunderbird having recently migrated from my trusty Eudora and I am sure my problem is a stupid mistake on my part. The top bar shows about 10 email messages but not the inbox . If I restart thunderbird I can see the usual window with all my mail boxes including inbox but then it is overwritten with one of the messages from the top bar.

Right click one of the many tabs that you left open and select Close Other Tabs. Now start closing message tabs when done with them.

Well, the window with the inbox and other mail boxes came back, before I read your reply. Still don't know how that happened -just did: was it something I did?

I am on a Mac so I am not sure what right click means for me. Anyway now I find that I am in full screen mode and I don't know how to escape from that either. Any suggestions?
