I switched to Firefox a few months ago and loved it, been using it ever since but for the last few weeks it's been overheating my computer. According to Activity Monitor FirefoxCP Web Content is rarely using less than 100% CPU, usually 120% when watching videos of any kind. Right now, with three tabs open it's using 74%. Firefox itself sits around 25%. Youtube gets my computer nearly too hot to touch, but some streaming sites don't do it at all.

I heard that there were some overheating issues with macbooks and heard Mozilla was working on a fix but I haven't read where that is at. I'd really prefer not switching to another browser.

Hi, this has been sitting awhile and thought should get back to you but I am a Windows person so I may get the locations/menus a little wrong. Ok, probably a lot wrong but hope you can get to these settings.

Firefox 3 Bar Menu --> Tools → Account Settings panel and under Permissions check (put a Check Mark in the box) the setting : Prevent Accessibility Services from accessing your browser.

Go to the 3 Bar Menu then Tools → Account Settings --> Performance and untick everything. change the recommended size lower then see how it runs. Note: 1 = No Multiprocessor = slow again. Try 2 or go higher, then down again till find the sweet spot. Restart Firefox after making these changes please. Note : Hardware Acceleration is for Video Card, Monitor to see if remain off or to turn back on.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Hello there, I've adjusted the settings so I will get back to you later today to see how they worked.

For what it's worth, your instructions, though slightly off, were completely comprehendible.

Thank you very much, I'll reply here in a few hours.

Hey, a bit late but I wanted to be sure. So firefox has cooled down quite a bit when in normal use but it heats up pretty hot still when I'm streaming videos that aren't youtube now ha! stuff like dtmts.com, and when I stream nhl games (that's about the only videos I stream that aren't on youtube).

Though in general it's been better so I thank you for that, let me know if you have any other suggestions.

Hi, ya well if have a can of compressed air clean your vents and fans and filters. Open the thing up of it is a desktop as summer is getting close and air temps are higher.

New Flash released this date : Flash Player Version: 29.0.0.171 https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/ Step 1: Select Operating System Step 2: Select A Version (Firefox, . . . .)

There was no info sent about your Extensions that you use : they use aprox 20megs each fyi.

No info a about your video card drivers so no idea if there is errors in them. Check for newer drivers.

All I can think of besides moving down to the Extended Release Version, 52.7.4 which will move rapidly in the next several months to being ver 60esr and Quantum based by July.

No idea what Firefox Release version will be at then. ver 60 will be out soon as version 61 is in Beta test.
