Computer crashed. Can't get websites I lost. Your instructions say click on "Restore Previous Session" But that is greyed out in the menu. Nothing works.

I'm getting frustrated with this browser. The last browser I used automatically restored all web pages on reboot.

I like some things about Firefox, but others are either complex or have too many steps to solve.

Hi, sorry not coming up for you as was expected. Sometimes that happens since you say "your computer crashed". So data can be lost or corrupted when that happens as it does not have enough time to save anything and because it goes down so quickly.

There may be nothing to restore.

Let's start here for your Windows 10 crash and you can do a quick repair on it to make sure there is no problems :

  • Repair System Registry and Files

Find the Dos Prompt or Powershell then Right Click and Run as Administrator then : Copy/Paste to Dos Window : DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth then hit Enter. Reboot when completed. Note : DISM goes up to Microsoft for new files.

For Firefox please do this if you need those websites and they can be recovered : Grab a copy of your Profile as per :

You can check if you have an "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop in case the Refresh feature in Firefox has been used and a new profile has been created.

You can copy files like these with Firefox closed to the current profile folder to recover specific data.

  • bookmarks and history: places.sqlite
  • bookmark backups: compressed .jsonlz4 JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder
  • cookies.sqlite for the Cookies
  • formhistory.sqlite for saved autocomplete Form Data
  • logins.json (passwords) and key4.db (58+) or key3.db (57 and older) (decryption key) for Passwords saved in the Password Manager
  • if you only have key3.db then make sure to remove an existing key4.db
  • cert9.db (58+) or cert8.db (57 and older) for (intermediate) certificates stored in the Certificate Manager
  • if you only have cert8.db then make sure to remove an existing cert9.db
  • persdict.dat for words you added to the spelling checker dictionary
  • permissions.sqlite for Permissions and possibly content-prefs.sqlite for other website specific data (Site Preferences)
  • sessionstore.jsonlz4 for open tabs and pinned tabs (see also the sessionstore-backups folder)

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

and always do this :
