I'm trying to run thunderbird but always hangs at the begining. The problem starts today, when i started thunderbird, it doesn't ask me the master password and remains "thinking", with the blue circle round and round. I cannot access to new mails neither send anyone.

I leave here the reported ID: ID: b86c2555-f637-41c3-8dae-987b30180412

I hope that help.

Finally, I uninstall Thunderbird and erase all the folders located at home/user/.thunderbird When I re-install it, i have to configure all the accounts again but now works perfectly again.

Thank you for all the support.

You title is not clear, it mentions "shutdown hang" and then you ask about a startup problem with Thunderbird.

Can you provide a screenshot or some exact error message?

If you need help to create a screenshot, please see How do I create a screenshot of my problem?

Once you've done this, attach the saved screenshot file to your forum post by clicking the Browse... button below the Post your reply box. This will help us to visualize the problem.

Thank you!

On the one hand, I attached a screenshoot of thunderbid recently open. I can do nothing because I can't write my general password (does not emerge the window demanding me the password), and that stop the connection between thunderbird and the mail server.

On the other hand, the shutdown error reported it's the error that appears when, tired of waiting, i close thunderbird.

So the problem i have is that thunderbird does not demand me the general password that i write everytime i run it, but the only error i can report it's due to shutting down thunderbird.

Here is a screenshoot of the error's console. Maybe that help you to understand my problem. Thank you.

Perhaps a permissions problem...?

Can you try this:

  • Exit Thunderbird completely
  • Open a Terminal
  • Issue this command to assign all permissions to your user in your Thunderbird profiles:

sudo chown -R $USER:$USER ~/.thunderbird

Then try restarting Thunderbird.

Hi Fabian!

Thank you for your help. I tried what you proposed me, but nothing happens.

One thing that I noticed is that, in preferences>security>password the box of the master password inexplicably it’s unchecked. And in the same tab, when I look up into saved passwords there isn’t any information of the 3 account that used until now in thunderbird, all it’s empty. It seems that all was erased or forgotten.

I tried erasing one account and re-adding it but i can’t add any account despite of I introduced the user and password and thunderbird recognise as correct the password.

Yes, the files were probably moved or deleted. Unless you had a good backup it may be more trouble trying to recover, specially if can get all the information again (passwords, etc.).

You could temporarily move your existing profile "out of the way" and try re-configuring the accounts:

cd ~ mv .thunderbird .tb-backup

Then restart Thunderbird, the above will make you start as if it was the first time after initial installation.
