When I bought this Asus Notebook in 2015 I loaded Firefox and it worked fine. This year an update happened after which Firefox no longer works at all. I cannot open it, so there will be no update to correct the issue.

Is there a version that will work on Win 8.1 and how can I get it?

When you try to run Firefox, do you get a specific error message or just nothing?

If you don't get any error message, could you try this:

Clean Reinstall

We use this name, but it's not about removing your settings, it's about making sure the program files are clean (no inconsistent or alien code files). As described below, this process does not disturb your existing settings. Do NOT uninstall Firefox, that's not needed.

It only take a few minutes.

(A) Download a fresh installer for Firefox 47.0.1 from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.) For maximum plugin compatibility, choose the 32-bit version even if you have a 64-bit Windows.

(B) Exit out of Firefox (if applicable).

(C) Using Windows Explorer/My Computer, rename the program folder as follows:

For 64-bit Windows:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files (x86)\OldFirefox

For 32-bit Windows:

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files\OldFirefox

(D) Run the installer you downloaded in step (A). It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

Note: Some plugins may exist only in that OldFirefox folder. If something essential is missing, look in these folders:

  • \OldFirefox\Plugins
  • \OldFirefox\browser\plugins

It did cross my mind that it could be the old Windows RT which is not supported, but that does not seem to have been put out on Asus devices. I imagine Firefox should run on your Asus. These are the System requirements & install instructions:

Do not try to uninstall or remove nay old Firefox just install the new version. Please post back with how you get on.

Many thanks for your assistance! I did the clean reinstall and Firefox now works again! Brilliant.

Thanks again, Ian
