Hello,

Recently when starting up Firefox, for some reason that I do not understand, all of my add-ons were disabled. Upon re-enabling them, I noticed that the usual old Windows title bar was present at the top of the browser in lieu of the Firefox button. Going into "Customize" and clicking on the "Title Bar" button does absolutely nothing whatsoever, and when I place a Firefox menu button into the navigation bar (or anywhere else), it simply refuses to work. It does not respond when I click on it, and when I right-click and click "place in menu" it just disappears. Disabling all my add-ons again doesn't get rid of the problem either. Nothing I do within my profile seems to be able to get rid of this title bar or make the Firefox button work again, including updating Firefox.

I tried switching to a new profile, and indeed, the Firefox menu button (present in the navigation bar) did actually work, though I couldn't seem to get it in the top-left corner like it used to be -- has this feature been omitted in the latest versions? In any event, I still couldn't get it to work in the profile I currently have.

My Firefox profile is very, very heavily customized and has been something like five years in the making... is it possible that I just have to start fresh with a new one?

I have attached an image to clarify what exactly I am talking about.

I would greatly appreciate any help with this issue; thanks.

It is possible that there is a problem with files in the profile folder that store the extensions registry.

Delete the extensions.* files (e.g. extensions.json, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.

New files will be created when required.

See "Corrupt extension files":

If you see disabled or not compatible extensions in "3-bar Menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left end of the Search bar to check if there is a compatibility update available.

If this didn't help then delete Add-ons.json and possibly prefs.js in case there is a problem with preferences.

You can look at the Classic Theme Restorer extension to customize the appearance and restore features used in older Firefox versions.

  • You can check out the settings of the CTR extension via its Options/Preferences button on the "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" page.
  • You can find extra toolbar buttons and more toolbar settings in Customize (3-bar Firefox menu button > Customize)

Thanks for the quick response! I did as you said; upon restarting Firefox, it asked me to reinstall all my add-ons, which I did. Unfortunately, when I restarted Firefox to complete said reinstallation, the same issue presented itself again.

What security software do you have?

There is also software like Advanced SystemCare with its Surfing Protection feature that can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.

Only security I have is Malwarebytes Anti-Malware free version; it does not run in the background or anything.
