Keep getting "Mozilla Crash Reporter"

Upon exit from Firefox (IE, click "X" in the window-pane) I get the Mozilla crash reporter: We're Sorry. Firefox had a problem and crashed. We'll try to restore your tabs and windows when it restarts. I then fill out the info to contact me about this problem. I also get this message (sometimes) when I request a page be printed out. This second problem is VERY annoying because I have to bring firefox back up and get to the page to print all over again. So I uninstalled firefox and downloaded a new copy and installed it. I get the same results. This is SO frustrating. How do I fix this? I'm running a PC with an i5-4430 processor, 8GB of memory, and a 1TB hard drive, and Windows 10 (upgraded from 8.1 - firefox was working fine on 8.1)

So far no one has contacted me and I've been doing this for almost 2 weeks now. BTW: I used the same email address.

Sorry that no one has contacted you about the issue. Mozilla receives many crash reports and it can be difficult to review them all.

In order to assist you better, please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.

Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.

(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

You can check if there is an update for your graphics display driver and check for hardware acceleration related issues.

Use "3-bar" menu button > Exit (Power button) (Windows: File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: File > Quit) to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.

In case you use "Clear history when Firefox closes" then try to disable this feature.

Note that clearing cookies this way can possibly cause issues with plugins (Firefox will create plugin-container processes). If you want to clear cookies then let them expire when you close Firefox.

This is a known bug with Firefox on Windows 10. This is bug 1189940. You can view it for status of the patch and for tips on repair.

It would appear that it is related to your Nvidia graphics driver. Please try updating/reinstalling your graphics drivers from the Nvidia website.

Wesley: FredMcD: Thank you for your reply. I did the SFC scan and all modules were OK.

I looked for updates to the graphics driver and the most current is the one already installed.

cor-el: Thank you for your reply.

At this point hardware acceleration is ON. I'm going to check what I've done so far to see if that works. (ran Nortan to clean up old TEMP folders etc).

QQQQQQQQQQ:

I really appreciate you quick replies!! Now in my haste I forgot to mention that I get this problem when trying to print from an Internet site. It does not happen every time but, all too often. Does problem 1189940 also cover "fixing" the problem of printing?

Thank you all again!

The bug report does not specifically cover an issue with closing Firefox or printing, etc. This bug is related to the nvwgf2um.dll file that has been known to crash on Windows 10 devices. According to all of the crash reports that you posted above, that is the file that was crashing on your Firefox. If some of those crash reports are from when your Firefox has crashed while printing, then it would be related to the bug.

Hope what I just said wasn't too confusing.

I am having a similar problem. Essentially, when I close Firefox, by clicking the "X" on the only tab remaining, it closes and then goes to "Clear Browsing Data" and then when it finishes doing that it will wait about two minutes or so and then return each time with the following message:

Mozilla Crash Reporter

"Firefox had a problem and crashed. We'll try to restart your tabs and windows when it restarts." Etc.

This happens each time I close Firefox but in previous versions it did not happen. I am currently using Firefox V. 43.0.2 with Windows 8.1. Thanks for your help!
