With Firefox in use, dialogue box appeared today advising Flash ready to install; Firefox locked until click OK. A genuine installation or a malware issue?

On my Mac – Mavericks and all software up-to-date – a small white dialogue appeared during Firefox session advising Flash ready to install. Can't recall the name on the box but Adobe was not present. The window in use became darker and could not be closed until OK was clicked in the aforementioned box. Previous Adobe Flash upgrades have been advised in an entirely different fashion. I am concerned that this was perhaps a malware infiltration attempt. Is it likely that the inbuilt protection within Firefox has successfully resisted any such attempt? I have checked my version of Flash and it does not seem to have changed since the previous upgrade.

Hi Brandon, Many thanks for the suggestions which I shall take account of. However, on examining my Firefox plug-ins, I noticed that Shockwave Flash had been updated at the time of the incident and presume that the action had been initiated by Mozilla/Adobe. The version appears to be up-to-date. I don't appear to be suffering any obvious problems with Flash at the moment so I shall continue to monitor the situation. Tom.
