In a website that has asked me to enter my user name and password, then click Sign in. When I do this it takes me back to the home page of the website rather than into the back end.

This issue can be caused by corrupted cookies or cookies that are blocked.

  • check the permissions on the about:permissions page and in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"

Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

I have already tried all of those options and still having the same problem. The website responds perfectly when I use IE, which I do not like to use.
