I am wanting to clean up my bookmarks which are a real mess and have been moved from computer to computer over the years. If I click on Bookmarks, the whole list shows but if I click on bookmarks-show are all bookmarks, only the tidy folders show, not any of the the bookmarks that are not in folders. So does anyone know how I can get all the unsorted bookmarks showing? They are not in the Unsorted Bookmarks folder either. Thanks, Jayne

The item in n the Bookmarks Manager that is labelled Bookmarks Menu is itself a folder. Open that then on the right-hand side scroll down, those may be the bookmarks that you have not yet found.

If the bookmarks are ones on the bookmarks toolbar look in that folder.

Hi Jayne,

Use the bookmarks manager (Library) (Ctrl+Shift+B in Windows) and note there are two panes the left shows the folders and the content of the folders shows in the right hand pane. Both of these will scroll if they have enough content in them.

The folders may be nested if so folders with sub folders have an arrowhead and the sub folders may also be opened.

Hi John, Thanks for your reply. I am using the bookmarks manager and the folders that say Unsorted bookmarks only have 1 item in them. I been through all the folders in manager and cannot see all the unfoldered bookmarks that show when I just hit bookmarks in the toolbar. Thanks, Jayne

Hi John, Thank you so much! I see them! I have looked down the left hand pane after expanding all the folders including Bookmarks menu! I never looked at the right side pane and scrolled down! I feel like an idiot! :) Thanks for you help......and patience! Jayne

Great. Thanks for posting back. You can be certain that you will not be the only one with this problem so the answer will help others.

I will edit the title from

to

Bookmarks: Unable to find and edit in Bookmarks Manager

Good idea John!

Now I have found I have 2 folders of everything, I don't think that was helping me either! :)

Jayne, possibly if you were using other computers it was due to importing bookmarks.

Also It is a good idea to somehow back up your bookmarks yourself either by making manual bookmarks backups occasionally, or if you have another device sync with that and that serves as a backup.

The standard backups overwrite everything if you use them to restore. (So always backup before doing any bookmarks restore). If however you import bookmarks from another browser you will be restricted to HTML bookmarks / favourites and instead of overwriting Firefox appends them, i.e. they are added to what you already have, and that may lead to duplication.

You can also open the bookmarks in the sidebar:

  • Toggle the Bookmarks sidebar on/off via "View > Sidebar > Bookmarks" or Ctrl+B (Command+B on Mac)

Thanks John, I will have a read through those links. :)

Thank you!
