If you are in table view, you can click the desired column on top row to define how messages are listed. More info on table and card view are at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/appearance-panel-layout-message-list-card-view-tab
Use the sorting functions. There is an icon for that at the top, or in the Application Menu: View|Sort By.
To put newest emails at top of list: 'View' > 'Sort by' > select: Date etc.
