Thunderbird stopped syncing to my aol account

I have been using Thunderbird to view all of my aol emails for 20 years. All of the sudden I can not connect to aol thru Thunderbird. When it asks me for my email after a minute or so of not being able to connect I get a box pop up that says Sending of password for user did not succeed. Mail server pop.verizon.net responded: [SYS/TEMP] Server error - Please try again later.

Any help would be appreciated
