It was working fine earlier. I don't know if it stealthily updated itself in the meantime, but when I try and start it, it goes straight to the crash reporter (even when I do the shift and click). The crash id is bp-cf9df0a6-d1ed-494b-a06d-2479c2170126 I'm running 64 bit Windows 10

This looks like a font isssue (gfxHarfBuzzShaper).

  • Firefox 51.0 Crash Report [@ hb_ot_map_t::apply<T> ]

Try to start Firefox in Safe Mode to see if that works.

  • Windows: hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox
  • Mac: hold down the Options key while starting Firefox

Did you make changes to any font settings in Options/Preferences?

If you did then try to delete the prefs.js file in the profile folder.

"AppData" (XP: Application Data; Mac: ~/Library; Linux: ~/.mozilla) is a hidden folder.

It won't start with the shift trick.

You are on to something with the fonts. I had forgotten I had changed the font in Firefox yesterday. I'll delete the prefs file like you said, and see what happens.

I deleted the prefs.js files (there were two of them, in different directories, one from December, and one from today). Firefox still won't start.

It looks like I had some weird hardware issue aside from Firefox, because the computer crashed when I shut down other programs, and it did a recovery boot. But Firefox is working OK now.
