Incredible memory usable
After 4 hour of actity, FF5 uses 1.2gb memory.
I'm using both Win 7 x64 home and Win XP sp3 and the problem persits.
This means it's not a local problem, this is a bug, so I would request fixing it. I don't want to use another browser, but i don't want to use a browser who take 1gb memory either.

update 5 hour of active FF5 and using 2gb memory. have only 4 page in firefox This isn't a joke!

I had the same problem too. I tried to disable all the add-ons and stuff, finally it turned out to be a Firebug Issue. :/
lett me check that, i have also Firebug plugin
