delete prior searches in search box

when placing the cursor on the empty search box (firefox/google) a drop down of previous searches shows. how can i delete what had been previous searched, i am not referring to deleting "history", just previous searches.....

Do you mean on the Google web page (www.google/firefox) or the Google search bar on the Navigation Toolbar?

Make sure that you are not confused by Search Suggestions: Use popular search suggestions in the Firefox Search bar
You can disable those for the Google Search bar by a right-click in the text area and remove the tick before 'Show Suggestions'
