YouTube videos are laggy and choppy in Firefox

MD Shahin

Hello,

YouTube videos are always choppy and laggy when I play them in Firefox on Android.

What happens: Video freezes for a few seconds, audio continues, and the picture is not smooth.

What I expected: Smooth playback.

My internet is fine, same videos work well in Chrome.

What I already tried: 1. Cleared cache and cookies 2. Restarted Firefox 3. Disabled extensions

Please help me fix this.

Thanks.

Since it’s Firefox for Android and you’ve already tried the usual cache, cookies, and extensions fixes, I’d look at the phone and Firefox version next.

Try updating Firefox and Android first. Then test YouTube in a private tab. If it’s still choppy, try lowering the video quality to 720p and see whether the dropped frames stop.

Firefox’s Android video settings can also be affected by the device’s battery or performance restrictions.

I wouldn’t start changing about:config settings on Android unless you know exactly what you’re changing. There have been Firefox Android reports of frame dropping that turned out to be graphics related, but the fixes varied by device.
