What do you mean by “ activating main Thunderbird window”?

What behavior do you want to change? From what to what?

Thank you for your reply.

If I click on one of the two options in the notification window, and the Thunderbird window is in the background (for example I'm browsing the internet, and browser is on the top) the main Thunderbird window birings on top. I would like it to stay in background. Any of these options ("Delete" or "Mark as read") mean for me, that I am not interested in this message, so I don't need Thunderbird interface at this moment.

Oh, I did not understand that your inquiry was about notifications (though you wrote "notification area").

I do not know a way to change that behavior. There are no options for it in Thunderbird settings.

Maybe someone else knows more.
