Auto-reply randomly activated and won't turn off?

kez1

This is a weird one, but as of a few days ago my email account has glitched and is sending an old auto-reply to every incoming email. I've ensured there's no auto-reply filter on my inbox at all, and have deleted all the templates, but for some reason it's still sending it to everyone.

Worse still it's now stuck in an auto-reply loop with the mailer daemon due to receiving a no-reply message, so my inbox is just filling up with endless 'Message Delivery Failure's!

I've also logged into the account via our hosting agent (123reg) and there are no auto-replies enabled there either.

Any help or advice very much appreciated!

Thanks, Kez

There is, of course, no specific "auto replay" feature in Thunderbird, though the same thing can be done using a combination of Message Filters and Templates. If you are absolutely sure that there are no filters or templates, then I don't think it can have come from Thunderbird and must be being generated on the server side.

A test for this could be to move the msgFilterRules.dat and TEMPLATES folder files out of your profile (while Thunderbird is closed.) TEMPLATES will be regenerated, and you can put the filter rules file back after the test.

The only other thing I can think of is that a reply wound up in the local Outbox folder, where they normally go when created while offline, with the intention of being sent later when you're back online, and that it's somehow stuck there. If you don't find it there, I think you've eliminated all local possibilities.

Such 'auto-replys' are sometimes called 'out-of-office' messages on web mail settings.
