Why can't some Wikipedia pages activate read mode?

more options

Hello everyone,

Why some Wikipedia pages cannot activate reading mode under Debian 12 and Firefox ESR 115.9.1, for example this English Wikipedia page on Emmabuntüs does not allow reading mode to be activated while French, Spanish and German pages can ?

See our test video on this subject: http://share.emmabuntus.org/Accessibility/Firefox_mode_lecture_non_disponible_emmabuntus_en.mp4

Is there a utility to test pages compatible with reading mode?

Or otherwise in which Firefox log file to see if a page is compatible or not?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Reading mode needs more than 5 paragraphs, that page has 2 or 3.

Thank you TyDraniu and do you know what is the reason for this limitation?

Do you know if there is an option in about:config to change this?

Thank you cor-el but this is too complicated for me, I don't know this language.

I see that you can send options to this script, but I don't know which one and how it is called by Firefox, or how to use this script.

You can force Reader View by adding about:reader?url= to the beginning of the address or install an extension like Activate Reader View.

Thank you very much zeroknight for your advice and it works well.

On the other hand, I forgot to say that this was for the visually impaired or blind so this plugin would have to have a shortcut for it to be usable for them.

Do you know if in Firefox you can associate a shortcut with an icon in the menu bar?

This extension is very interesting because it can be launched via a shortcut https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/reader-viewer/

Activate Reader View can be pinned to the toolbar for quick access.

The Reader View extension requires a lot more permissions and re-implements its own reader view which is largely unnecessary so I would not recommend it.

I know that you can pin this extension to the toolbar, but this is not accessible to a blind person, and you need a shortcut as these extensions offer: https://ibb.co/t8Tx3t7

I know that, but we cannot put an extension that is not accessible via a shortcut, nor an extension like Firefox reading mode which requires more than 5 paragraphs to read a page. If you managed to modify the value of the number of paragraphs read by the Firfeox reading extension, we would not add this extension. It's unfortunate to have such a limitation that I don't understand and which doesn't have a variable in Firefox's about:config. If you know where to suggest this development for Firefox, can I ask about it?
