I get into a site, it works perfectly, then I try to change pages within it (like on Facebook, from Home to Newsfeed). It starts spinning in the switchover and will not complete, shortly loses the site or says the site is illegal. Sometimes this happens when I first try to go to a site -- even to Firefox things like Options; get told it's "not a real site" or "unconnectable." Then maybe 5 minutes after the problems, everything suddenly works fine, like the snafus and freezes never existed. Firefox's offered solution do not work permanently. What is wrong with Firefox? Does not happen with other browsers like Chrome or IE.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

Tried that before. Tried that again. Does not stop problem from recurring as move around different websites. Problem often seems to occur at top of the hour, with any open window vulnerable to out-of-control spin in updating or even opening.

What security software do you have?

It is possible that your firewall or other security software blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to install for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

See:

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) to see if that helps.

Sorry. All suggestions so far have been tried and not helped. Works more often when I shut off McAfee, but problems still arise. What's this about a malbot in bigger sites that affects Firefox browsing/connection to bigger sites like Facebook, Yahoo, ESPN, etc.? And Refreshes I've manually sought (I like that Firefox blocks auto-refreshes) sometimes lead to same disconnect/freeze problem.

Issues have been previously linked to the McAfee Site Advisor extension. Try to disable it and see if the problem persists.

To disable it: Type "about:addons" in the Location bar Find the extension and click on its "Disable" button

Good advice, but I disabled it (MSA) before, and again after letting Firefox reboot itslef. Doesn't effect/solve problem.
