already typed the e-mail with all the info you need and it is on another computer. So if you want the norton into and the screenshots from bing and google you can send me an email.

Luckily I am smart enough to figure out they are doing it on purpose, no problem with yahoo and I like your product but you need to be more accessible for this kind of info to be sent to you. Only the fact that I have been using sense first version kept me going for the half hour this just sucked of my time.

Chosen solution

I tried on msn and keyed in Firefox the top result was

No idea how or why the MSN/Bing algorithm provides that as the top hit, maybe the site is a customer or advertiser with msn/bing or perhaps it is just a very popular download site.

That site does have a disclaimer about not being Mozilla.

It does in the small print include a link to Mozilla. The version of Firefox promoted is not even up to date.

I reported my concerns to

They will be able to review whether the site is making correct use of Firefox names and logos, and whether anything is worth doing about this.

But there is a possibility it's small print about bundled software is enough for it to be able to use Firefox logos and offer Firefox downloads.

I attach a screen shot of the body of the web page.

I m not sure I understand what you are asking.

Are you possibly trying to report that some security software is finding false positives and reporting Firefox as malware.

Or are you just reporting that you have malware on your computer ? and maybe need advice on clearing it up.

The following may help:

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

nope brand new install. No bad stuff on it. I can do it on my other computer also. First thing I do is virus software and then second is firefox. If you goto http://www.msn.com/ (what IE defaults you to first time you start it up) and type Firefox in the search area it takes you to a page that has ads related to Firefox. I did not notice it was not Mozilla and I clicked it and Norton went nuts. So I reopened browser and once again it took me to MSN, typed in Google, entered Mozilla Firefox in the search area and again came up with a non Mozilla ad on top clicked it and Norton went nuts. Just did it on my main computer and same thing. Now if I type bing into my Google search and goto bing that way and then type in firefox you do not get the add and mozilla is top hit. Strange I know and hard to explain does not help it was early in morning. Trust me I am the person who thinks my coworkers are lame whenever we get an e-mail from our tech department warning us not to open files we are not expecting.....this last time it was zip files and I thought to myself who the heck uses zip anymore and why would you open it even in your personal e-mail. Will send another response with Norton info and PDF files of what was coming up on pages when I finish my setup.

oh and when I type Yahoo into the msn search I get to yahoo and search from there and Mozilla is first hit as it should be. The conspiracy thearest in me has to wonder how I get missdirected by the two sites that are in direct competition with FIrefox...lol

Funny - when I try that search on MSN with SeaMonkey, clicking the suggestions that appear with the search produces no response at all. With Firefox (an older version), I get reasonable results. It helps to read the addresses of the links before clicking, and I always do that.

LOL. I usually do, and if at all possible link through a site I know like IRS.gov. Fell asleep in the middle of the install and woke up and just clicked the link so used to Mozilla always being the top link. Virus software first then Firefox second on any install I do. Just find it strange that it only happened at the sites with compeeting products. Yahoo no problem was on top like it should be.
