Am on w10-64 using TB 64bit

I was eager to use new TB so I updated from ~68 to 78. It is working.

However, I have lost the functionality of my most use AddOn TagToolbar. The developer of the AddOn has updated that for v78's MailExtension version, but as New method doesn't allow adding Toolbar in main TB, which TagToolbar was doing, now that toolbar is gone and I am facing a lot of problems using the AddOn with its new system.

I tried to reinstall 68.8.1 over 78, but it doesn't allow me, saying that "some later version has updated TB and it cannot be used with 68, so asked me to create new profile, otherwise it wouldn't run. Now, all my previous mails of last 20 years are locked in there was converted to suit v78, so I cannot just create a new profile and start from zero.

So I want to revert from v78 to v68 (or other equivalent non-beta)

Please guide step by step how I can revert and then install my older version of TagToolbar.

It is bad that TB forcefully converted my data without asking me, without telling me, and now those data cannot be used in older versions. If TB had given me warning of that sort, I would have preferred to create a "copy profile" so that TB doesn't migrates me old profile, rather makes a copy and then migrates that copy to suit new version. I had not expected such unruly behaviour from you guys.

Thanks. -- Rawat

Hello,

I used Thunderbird to migrate my university email data. My access to my university email will no longer exist and the file space will be deleted after a deadline given by the university.

This is my first migration experience, so I have some questions:

1) After the university deactivate my email account, I understand that I will be able to access my university emails through Thunderbird, but will I be able to access and download my emails’ attachments in Thunderbird , or do I need to download every email attachment manually to my PC before the university deactivate the account?

2) I have not open some of my university emails, do I need to open all emails before the university deactivate my account to be fully viewable?

3) Following this tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywJ6eQwhb78, I saved a backup copy of the migration to be able to have a copy of my university email data if I need to buy a new computer. If I activate the backup copy in another device, do I still have access to my emails’ attachments, and be able to download them?

Thanks

In May I backed up my Thunderbird profile (which uses IMAP).

Subsequently, my Windows 10 user profile got corrupted and to fix it, I had to transfer my TB folders to a different Windows user profile.

After doing so, I noticed that searches of my TB email didn't always show all relevant emails.

I continued using TB without any other obvious issues. While using it in June, I created some new subfolders and saved about 300 emails into these half-dozen new folders.

Then in July, I made a backup of TB again.

Now I recently installed a new replacement hard drive in my laptop and did a fresh install of Windows 10.

I need to install TB and then restore either the May or July backup to my new Windows 10 configuration.

If I restore the May backup, am I correct that the folders I created in July won't show up? Will the emails that I had placed in those folders just be back in my main Inbox?

If I restore the July backup, I assume that all my newer half-dozen sub-folders, and their emails, will all be restored. But I'm wondering if the indexing on the July backup may have been corrupted, and if I'll have to fix that.

Which would you recommend as a more practical choice for restoring, the May backup or the July one?

I have an email client that does weird things so I thought I'd try Thunderbird. eM Client doesn't play nice with exporting and TB can't import directly so I looked for add-ons (which TB doesn't tell you about, you have to go looking for answers). None of the import tools work because 78.1.1 is too new. So I installed 68.1.1 figuring I could do the import, then update. I installed Import Export NG but I still have the same problem - 'No application to import data from found'. I tried exporting from eM but TB doesn't offer any import options other than directly from another client. Import Export NG is in the extensions list but I can't do anything with it directly except change settings. All of my current email is IMAP but I have a history of personally important POP emails going back many years that I don't want to lose.

Please - can anyone tell how to backup only email account configuration: mail server settings (server address, port, protocol, etc), usernames, passwords, email account aliases, RSS accounts, etc. Would be good to include here Address Book but sometimes it would be good to be able to backup Address Book separately. Hopefully all email accounts would be possible to backup regardless of authentication type. I mean also email accounts using OAuth2 authentication. Also would be good to be able backup Thunderbird own settings separately. Sometimes is only email account settings important to backup, sometimes also Thunderbird settings, e.g. extensions separately. As usually there are IMAP-protocol used then emails are not needed to backup what most such extensions are offering like ImportExportTools NG. As you can read from https://support.mozilla.org/et/questions/1281340 - backuping whole profile (including emails) requires enormous amount of storage space. Sometimes is needed certainly also email backup itself. It would be very much appreciated if there could be an option to select manually every component that is included into backup and what is not. I've tried to find these files manually what to copy to backup these settings mentioned above but haven't succeeded to figure out which file is connected to which part of settings. Certainly I prefer free and open-source solutions. Certainly also restoring backupped settings flawlessly.

Using currently 64-bit Thunderbird 68.11 under GNU/Linux, manually downloaded as user from Thunderbird homepage. Usually tutorials handle all data (including emails) that are not needed and do not allow to distinguish only required part of data: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/moving-thunderbird-data-to-a-new-computer https://www.auralsolutions.com/2012/12/how-to-backup-thunderbird-data-emails-and-contacts/ https://github.com/thundernest/import-export-tools-ng https://www.iperiusbackup.net/en/backup-thunderbird-and-restore-email-and-account/ https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-thunderbird-stores-user-data#w_backing-up-a-profile http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup http://kb.mozillazine.org/Moving_your_profile_folder

I just want to confirm [referencing https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1280939 ] that I am understanding correctly:

I have an IMAP account, and some of my emails have been downloaded from IMAP to local Thunderbird folders.

Now I am going to be migrating my TB data from one computer to another.

Is it correct that I only have to back up and restore my AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird folder -- and that this will restore my locally saved emails as well?

If the answer is yes, just out of curiosity, what kind of data is stored in the AppData\Local\Thunderbird folder?

And is there any scenario in which it becomes useful or advisable to back up and restore that folder as well?

When I import the file into Thunderbird (68.11.0) only the first email address appears. Why doesn't the second email address go into 'Additional email'? I would appreciate any advice/help on how to get both addresses into Thunderbird address book.

I am on Windows 10 home. I found that I was running Thunderbird beta and could not print emails. I downloaded Thunderbird 78.1.1 but have a couple of configuration issues and would be grateful for assistance.

I am operating POP and local folders. I have files: T:\DAC\Tony's profile T:\DAC\Tony's email-outlook

In the profile there is a file abook.mab.msf - but I cannot access addresses in Thunderbird. How can I access the historical addresses?

On Thunderbird there are a number of Inbox folders? The top one contains my sub-folders, which is how I file emails. But do I have a configuration problem with the several Inbox folders & 2 Sent folders?

Attached are my Server settings & Local folder settings. Thanks for any assistance, Tony

Somehow, Thunderbird was updated on my system without my permission. I have now lost everything -- all my archives, all my structures, and the ability to send email from some accounts.

How do I back out of this installation and install a previous version so I can get my content back? One of the messages was my friend's suicide note which I had archived. It is now gone. I am not happy with what Thunderbird has done behind my back. And I have financially supported this effort.

I am trying to move all of my emails over from Windows Live Mail, and I am having trouble. I have release 78.1.1, just downloaded a few days ago.

The numbered items below are on a help page for Thunderbird (in https://support.mozilla.org/), with my problems interspersed:

"1. Export your messages from Windows Mail in .eml format." The "export" selection in WLM gives the options of exporting to Microsoft Exchange/Outlook, or Windows Live Mail or Microsoft Exchange/outlook. The former does nothing, the latter generated files that I put in "users\[me]\appdata\local\microsoft\windows live mail".

"2. In Thunderbird, create a folder in "Local Folders" to hold your imported mail and select it." I created the folder.

"3. Right click the folder and select ImportExportTools > Import all messages from a directory > also from its subdirectories." Right clicking on the folder just gives the "open, search,...properties" etc., no import/export tools. However, in the menu at the upper right, tools > import is an option. Selecting that asks me if I want to import from "Becky! Internet Mail" or "Outlook". I picked Outlook, and just got an "error, can't do this" message. I then picked Becky, which allowed me to proceed to step 4:

"4. Navigate to the .eml files folder. The default location for Windows Live mail is C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail (or \Windows Mail)." I navigated there, and after a bit it gave me a long error message that included "an error occurred importing mail...", "unable to find mail to import", "error importing [and then it named several, but not all, of my mail folders]". It created a folder "Becky! Internet mail" which has folders I recognize, but with no apparent sub-folders, and after about a half hour the blue circle is still going around... so I don't think this is going to work either.

What am I missing? Thanks! Carol

Then how do I transfer the new Thunderbird on my Windows 7 computer to my Windows 10 computer?

Sorry if topic not quite right.

When backing up Thunderbird - every month or so (for many years) to a separate HDD - always thought that address book was within the -- Roaming - Thunderbird - Folder. Can anyone say please, where to find the address book on the HDD as I now think, to the cost of my wife's PC's faulty HDD, it has to be exported for back up as it appears not(?) to be automatically backed up when backing up Thunderbird. Previously, not sure how long ago, I seem to remember content of emails being shown within the Thunderbird Folder, appears not to be so currently.

My wife is a little upset because my misunderstanding has caused her the loss of her email address list. In future both on mine and her PCs I I think I'll have to create folders header "E Mail Address Backup" - am I wrong?

Thanks in anticipation
