I am a web developer and ever since the Firefox 22 update, sounds no longer play for any users on the website. I have even recreated the problem myself on a clean install of windows 7/clean firefox/clean quicktime install. The sound code worked flawlessly prior to the 22.0 update and has caused a big rift between my users and myself, mostly blaming me and not putting any blame on Mozilla. It has been frustrating as all of us have tried to work through our own ways/solutions with absolutely no fixes. The sound in question is located at http://www.trophyfishingonline.com (sorry but you'd have to register/login) but after, you click simply "Test Sound" and it will attempt to play. Prior to installing Quicktime, it did instruct me to download the plugin which I did and it did not work or play. Again, this worked flawlessly years for everyone(including myself) on Firefox and suddenly it does not work across the board for hundreds of users on different platforms, installations, etc. Please help - this is a bit of an emergency as a web developer who relies on the Firefox platform for his business.

According to some comments in the following article, hidden="true" will stop the embed from running:

Add-on Compatibility for Firefox 22 | Mozilla Add-ons Blog

Can you test with that removed?

At last, I have found somebody who has the same problem as I have been having. It is not my own website that has the missing sound but it is my Webmail. For all previous versions of Firefox the New Email Notification wav sound played when I received a new email but with Firefox 22 this no longer worked. Yet every time I went back to Firefox 21 the sound played again then when I went back to version 22, it stopped working again. I need the sound to alert me of new emails. It is just that one specific wav sound that is affected - the one from the Webmail site. I am still able to play wav files from Google.

I posted a thread on this site about this problem and although I got a lot of good advice and assistance, nothing helped, including creating a new profile.

I have a Mac with the latest OS X, the latest Quicktime and the latest Flash. I contacted my Webmail company but the problem does not seem to be with them.

I have now just finished filing a bug report in the hope that it is a bug that can be fixed but I thought I was maybe the only person in the world with this problem. I thought it was just me. So I am delighted that there is someone else with the same problem. And you had the same problem with Windows.

May I suggest/request that you also report this to Bugzilla. The more people report it, the more chance that they will look into it and fix it.

I have just realised that this question seems to have been solved with the Chosen Solution but I do not understand it. Can anyone explain it to me in plain terms?

I found the related bug (looks like it will be fixed in Firefox 23)
