firefox keeps locking up for a few minutes, the screen goes white and cant click anything till it begins responding, which sometimes never happens. Whats going on?

Firefox, at random locks up and "is not responding" the page sort of white's out, making everything pale, and i cant click anything within firefox until it's okay again

Which someitmes is minutes, sometimes it never responds again forcing me to quit it.

I would try another browser, but firefox has literally stolen the internet from my laptop. Nothing else willconnect to the internet now.

This also happens with me frequently, mostly with Firefox 3.6.12, but occasionally with othe applications such as Microsoft Outlook, therefore I suspect that it is a general Vista problem, and a solution may be found there.

Its only really started happening since the last update 3.6.12. Especially when using dwhelper to download something - after about 3 mins or so - Firefox becomes unresponsive. 

 I've even tried to browsing with history records at a minimum and also a few times in 'private browsing', but same problem. Firefox becomes unresponsive after a few minutes and hangs. Then have to shut it down via task mgr.

I'll try uninstalling this version and installing an older one from file hippo. Hope that works as great as it used to.

FIREFOX DOES NOT WORK IN ANY OF THE ONES I HAVE TRIED. I AM UP TO 9 NOW & IT STILL DOES NOT WORK. FADES A LOT & I CANNOT SCROLL MOST OF THE TIME. WHAT A PIECE OF CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
