Email from COX stopped downloading
Using the latest Thunderbird (64) and Windows 10 (64), my email abruptly stopped downloading from the COX server, and the application just responded very, very slowly, if at all, and memory use built up. After 3 or 4 days, it suddenly downloaded the expected mail, but then stopped downloading the next morning. And is now usually effectively dead. I've been employing this set-up for years, with not problems, and didn't change anything.
I've restarted multiple times, tried the 6 or 7 repair options on this site, and even downloaded Thunderbird and reinstalled, nothing helping.
Thunderbird claims to be sending login info to the server, and then just hangs and often says no mail in inbox.
Just now, after 3 days, I got info being processed (I get that regularly), please wait - and then all of a sudden the email downloaded??? This is like my twentieth try since the previously successful download. I've not closed the app, and it continues to work - but I'm afraid to restart my computer now.
This is a POP account. I have a lot of email in my local inbox, but should that make any difference?

Please provide results for the following test on your system
- Does Thunderbird work as expected in Thunderbird troubleshooting mode?
- Does Thunderbird work as expected with your OS started in safe mode with Networking. Instructions for each operating system: Windows 10/11, Windows 8, Windows 7, OSX
I tried both when I first encountered the problem, and neither (nor the other standard suggestions on this site) made any difference. Since I've been afraid to close Thunderbird, its continued working for the last 4 days or so. Sure seems like some kind of sync issue with the server? Even when my machine goes to sleep, the connection is retained.
I would suggest powering off all of the stages to your internet connection, including your computer and powering them back on. Those are standard steps for anything that uses electricity and for some reason folk just do not do it with their computers and phones for some reason.
Of course, I usually power off my computer every night, but I haven't tried the modem and router - next time I feel brave I'll give that a try. Since the problem is intermittent is seems less likely a stray bit is responsible, but Off & On is a time honored strategy. Thanks for the suggestion.

You can also log connectivity actions on a per protocol basis. See https://wiki.mozilla.org/MailNews:Logging
Logs get very bit very fast. Generally I try and only have therm running for a few minutes, not days. Those functions that log to the error console do slow Thunderbird somewhat but getting hundred megabyte logs are not such an issue with that method. Getting to the error console before the relevant items disappear. That is the issue with error console logging.
My computer auto restarted for an OS update last night, and upon turning it on this morning, my Thunderbird again can not download email from the server - I'm not sure it recognizing any there.
Trying powering off my modem and router with no change in behavior. Both wired connections.
