You have no need to worry. Thunderbird has been supporting TLS 1.2 for a while.

That is just a general notification which they have probably sent to everyone. They have no idea what email client you are using. Thunderbird has been providing the most up to date for quite some time - at least 2 years.

Version 78.0 was first offered to channel users on July 17, 2020, new and by default Thunderbird would only connect to servers that were more up to date eg: using TLS v1.2

If you were connecting to a server that was not up to date then you would not get email and would need to reset some settings to allow Thunderbird to accept connection to servers still using TLS1.0 or TLS 1.1

This information is in the Thunderbird release notes for version 78 and also in the Help Article 'Thunderbird 78 FAQ'

Regarding outgoing server SMTP settings which I believe you were concerned about.

This is a quote from ionos : https://www.ionos.co.uk/help/email/glossary-email-terms-explained/smtp/ The recommended SMTP port is 587 along with the TLS (or STARTTLS) security type. Alternatively, you can use port 465 with SSL as the security type.

In Thunderbird that means for outgoing server (SMTP) Recommended use : Port 587 Recommended use Connection Security: STARTTLS

Alternative that with be ok: Port: 465 Connection SEcurity : SSL/TLS

I made those changes and now have a new problem with email provider I use to view my Thunderbird 102.0.3 emails on my android cell phone. Email icon is a red circle showing lid side of an envelope. I am guessing it is some Google mail application. Problem is for what reason it does not see all my email addresses when I am looking for an email I know I have when on my Windows 10. I did some searching and see where in last couple of months Thunderbird has been working with K-9 as its email server. I thought why not switch from what I think is a Google app to view my Thunderbird emails from Ionos on my android to K-9 for use on my Android. Before making change I thought why not ask if it is a good plan to delete red background backside of white envelope application and go with K-9. Any suggestions? Thanks I am using 993 with imap.ionos.com and 465 with smtp.ionos.com both with SSL/TLS

I am beginning think I should have stayed with Thunderbird version I had before upgrading 3 weeks ago to TB 102. Using my Window 10 and Ionos.com email web site I see mail2.jpg and to Thunderbird 102.0.3 on very same laptop I see mail1.jpg Is there some reason they are not syncing? Why? Thanks

How is it I made a donation to Moz://a and now no replies to my questions.

When I go to my Thunderbird 102.0.3 site on my Windows 10 it does not sync with folders in my Ionos.com same mail account?

Could my Thunderbird 102.0.3 be trying to sync to outdated, changed or whatever version of Thunderbird on my laptop? When I use my Android moto e5play cell phone I see those emails I do not see using Thunderbird 102.0.3 on my Windows laptop in same email account. Why? There has to be something simple to fix this. Thanks

I do not see any relevance, giving monies to Thunderbird helps to develop the program, fix bugs , maintain this help forums so you get access to help etc etc. But as far as people answering questions and offering help - I, as all the others, give my time freely. It's not a job and I do not get any renumeration. But to help you understand why I've been away from keyboard for the last 24 hours - I've been at the local hospital as my other half has just had replacement knee surgery. So I'm somewhat busy. I'm just letting you know that I've not gone to sleep nor gone shopping nor decided to take a vacation.

re :Could my Thunderbird 102.0.3 be trying to sync to outdated, changed or whatever version of Thunderbird on my laptop?

No. You should only have one version.

re :When I use my Android moto e5play cell phone I see those emails I do not see using Thunderbird 102.0.3 on my Windows laptop in same email account. Why?

The ionos image says you have 4 mail in Trash. I cannot see any info in that image that says you have any other emails in any of those folders.

The Thunderbird imap account image, says you have 3 in Inbox or one it's subfolders which I cannot see and one in Sent. It does not display the 'Trash' in the image. I do not know what the 3 for Inbox is because I cannot see name of column header. But as the size is small, I'm assuming it is total, so account Inbox has 3 emails.

re : phone - Is it possible you are connecting to the server using a pop protocol ? You would need to use imap. If you see emails using a phone, it is also possible you are downloading them and popping them off the server, in which case the imap account will not see it because they do not exist.

Also in imap account - check the folders have this selected: Inbox should auto check for new mail, but what about the other folders. Right click on folder and select 'Properties' select checkbox: 'When getting new messages for this accoutn, always check this folder' click on 'OK'

There was no thanks from Mozilla for my donation and no acknowledgement of why I donated because of you helping me and then a day or two later I do not receive all my TB emails.

Both boxes are now checked on each folder and sub folder linked to my Ionos.com account. I closed TB 102.0.3 and restarted still no files that I see in same account at Ionos.com site. Oh, and I did a folder repair. imap://email%40///////.com@imap.ionos.com/Misc above /////// is a name however doing a search using description I find nothing on my computer. and nothing for imap:// I never use pop. I am sorry about your other half. What can I do to see my emails in my Ionos.com account in my Thunderbird account? Thanks

Saturday 07/30/2022. I see my new emails, there was 10 of them using TB 102.0.3. I deleted each after looking at each one and they delete just like I want them to. Not to trash they are gone. Spam and junk folders are empty.

I go to my Ionos.com same mail account and I see below image. Lots of new and saved emails not showing in my spam account when using Thunderbird 102.0.3 spam folder. I quit adding those spam mails when using Ionos.com and Thunderbird 102.0.3 because it was a pain to log into Ionos.com go to my spam mail folder and add those junk mails to junk. I liked using TB 102.0.3 to make a junk list using a Block List. It fact I deleted all blocked emails from my Ionos.com TB site about a week ago so I could use Block list with Thunderbird 102.0.3 on all new emails I want to add to Block list.

Problem is those emails do not show when using in Thunderbird 102.0.3. And other folders having old saved emails are not syncing to same folders when using Thunderbird 102.0.3. Please tell me how to fix.

I called Ionos.com They suggested i change to 587 SSL/TLS. Change did not send emails sitting in folders on my Ionos.com mail account to corresponding folder account on my laptop.

re :imap://email%40///////.com@imap.ionos.com/Misc

The bit I've made bold will be your email address. So your email address is email@yourdomain.com There is nothing wrong with that part.

If you are not getting anything coming in and nothing going out then nothing is accessing server.

It is possible your Firewall is blocking Thunderbird. It is possible that the Firewall thinks the recent Thunderbird update is a completely different program.

Exit Thunderbird. Access the Firewall. The Firewall might be the default one supplied with your OS or It might be controlled by your Anti-Virus program. set Thunderbird application as an allowed program. If it is already set up as allowed, then block it , ok it and then access Firewall again and set to be allowed.

Please confirm that Thunderbird program is in the Firewall list as an allowed program.

Do any of below fit your description of "Thunderbird program"? "Mail and Calendar" but not saying Thunderbird.

Those images are not the Firewall. The first image looks like you performed a search. So it shows anything you have on your entire computer which has the word thunderbird in it. eg: What you have previously downloaded, any shortcuts etc. It does not identify the full path.

It does show the 'Mozilla Thunderbird' Folder and the 'thundrebird.exe' which would be in the 'Mozilla Thunderbird' folder.

The second and last image shows the 'thunderbird.exe' which is the executive file for the program. It will be in the 'Mozilla Thunderbird' folder. The other files are used by thunderbird.

Are you trying to add Thunderbird to the Firewall ? Here is an image which shows mine in the Firewall as allowed program. So you can see what it should look. It shows the full path. So you would be selecting the 'thunderbird.exe' file and it should show up using one of the following directories when you add it to the Firewall. The Thunderbird program directory path would be in one of these locations if you allowed the install into the default location.

  • C://Program Files (x86)/Mozilla Thunderbird/thunderbird.exe
  • C://Program Files/Mozilla Thunderbird/thunderbird.exe

I also have the updater file set as allowed as well. Which in my case is here:

  • C://Program Files (x86)/Mozilla Thunderbird/updater.exe

My Firewall is controlled by Norton.

I have no clue what I am doing however I did add Thunderbird see below to my Firewall settings making it private. If above is correct I will do what you did and add Thunderbird updates since they seem to go up and down. Is what I did correct? And can I hope no one can see my files with what I did reading everything we have talked about?

The image is not really showing anything. Just a checkbox with the word Thunderbird. You have not told me what Firewall you use. What process you used, what you clicked on. But when locating the file to add to the firewall, you would use the C:\Program Files (x86), then select' Mozilla thunderbird folder and finally click on thunderbird.exe. So if you did that process then it should be ok.

Note: The image I supplied offers alot of information about the Firewall - which program controls it, the tabs I clicked on to get to set up the an allowed program and the full path of where to find it. There is a big difference between the info I supplied as an example and your image of the single line showing a checkbox and the word thunderbird.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe When I click on Thundbird in Firewall above pops up.

Something new. I spoke to Ionos support yesterday and it was suggested I change 587 to 465. Doing above I can send emails from my account Thunderbird account. Problem is a cannot see my trash folder. When I try to add it I can't.

I called Ionos.com this morning to speak to support and am told while I can see all my inbox emails in all my sub folders including trash on my Android and Ionos account I cannot see it using Thunderbird unless I subscribe to an exchange account. Right now I am using same Basic mail account for 20 years now. See image below instead of making sub folders to my email address I made some sub folders to my Inbox to see if that would work. I just got another thought. Going to use those new sub folders to move emails to them to see if they stay there. Last question. I have 8 spam messages sitting in my spam folder going to Thunderbird on Ionos. How do I move all to spam and any new ones to Spam folder using Thunderbird on Windows 10? Thanks

I have some news for all of you. There is reason why I am having problems with Ionos.com and Thunderbird 102.1 As of 9th of August 2022 no more Thunderbird with Ionos. If I want an email provider it has to be Outlook.com or perhaps some other provider but definitely not Thunderbird. Add to above an Ionos.com exchange fee per month or year to use Outlook.com in an upgraded basic to business account with Ionos.com. And something else, there is a yearly or monthly fee to use Outlook.com Total could be $150.00 a year. I have my domains with Ionos.com have you a suggestion who might transfer them and use Thunderbird 102. If I am saying something wrong here let me know. What I do know is I like Thunderbird a lot more than I do using more than I need in Outlook. Thanks.
