I've had an EarthLink account ever since there was an EarthLink (1994) with which I've been interfacing via Thunderbird ever since there was a Thunderbird (2003). Here are the essentials from my setup ... 

 SMPT
   Description:  EarthLink
   Server Name:  smtpauth.EarthLink.net
   Port:  587
   Connection security:  STARTTLS, if available
   Authentication method:  Password, transmitted insecurely
   User Name:  <EarthLink eMail address>

 POP
   Server Name:  pop.EarthLink.net
   Port:  110
   User Name:  <EarthLink eMail address>
   Connection security:  None
   Authentication method:  Password, transmitted insecurely
