Thunderbird makes e-mail response to US-mail impossible, says e-mail address doesn't exist. Weird??????????????

As the header says I'm getting mail from genealogist friends BUT Thunderbird tells me that the senders address doesn't exist. My friend are quite new but they know too much about our relatives to be fake. They are between 60 and 70 years and I can't imagine them to be villains. Another "help" tells me that they have wrong settings and that I shall tell them which I've done without any result. I'm quite too ignorant in computing to understand all answers. When you reply try to manually write the email address and do not allow Thunderbird to auto-complete the email address
