My wife has had her incoming messages stop arriving when she changed her outgoing server

This is very weird, and Ellen could not remember her sign-in, so she is going to post on my account. Here she is:

I have a very old Mac computer. Don't laugh, it's a G4, and it still worked ok until we changed our outgoing mail server. Remember Robert had some issues with his server change as well? His is working fine. For years, after we changed from Optimum to Verizon Fios, we still used mail.optonline.net as our outgoing server because Verizon Fios doesn't host mail. Our incoming server is a pop box on RCN, which hosts Robert's site.

A couple of weeks ago, the optonline box stopped working for Robert, and we switched him over to an smtp outgoing box on rcn. It works fine.

My optonline worked for another week. Then, when it stopped working, I installed it first on my G4, and then on my iPhone. I was getting incoming mail on the G4 until 11:35 that day, the time I installed it on the iPhone. Now I only get incoming mail on my iPhone.

I know the answer is to buy a new computer, but we can't for a few more months, so we really need to fix the G4. I called RCN and Apple, and they both said that it's a Thunderbird problem. The iPhone says "Delete from server Never" under Advanced. So it shouldn't be interfering. But it is.

Please help.
