I regularly save pages that I parse to get pieces of financial information. I have always been able to open these pages in Firefox and view them just like they looked when I first visited the online page. About a month ago both newly saved and older pages started failing. The pages of some institutions open as before but other institutions do not. I use "Save Page as, Webpage, complete" to save the page. I can still parse the page but the pages no-longer display as they once did! Firefox 83 Linux Mint 20.0 Is this a browser problem or a website problem? Regards, Rod

It would help if you provide steps to replicate, the websites, and screenshot of the issue. I can save the complete page, but not sure what you are doing up until you see an issue.

Steps to reproduce: 1. Navigate to my bank main display page 2. Select "Fine", "Save page as", in the bottom right choose "Web page, complete", select Save 3. Navigate to the saved HTML file and select the file. File manager automatically opens the page in Firefox 4. Saved page is displayed for a fraction of a second and appears to be the same as the page at the time it was saved. The page is instantly refreshed and displays only a portion of the original page along with the message: " errors.httpPageErrorHeader errors.httpPageErrorBody.1 errors.httpPageErrorBody.number errors.httpPageErrorBody.2 "

For months I've saved these pages and each time I've been able to view the page again by selecting the saved file. This different behaviour started about 10 days ago. My Ruby code that parses the page still finds the fields on the saved page and I can see the fields if I open the html file in Libre Office Writer.

You failed to provide the name of the bank, but let me try it with Wells Fargo. Did you log into the site or are you just looking at the home page? I'm able to see Wells Fargo page.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

I tried safe mode and the same thing happens. I've tried opening the file in Chromium and Chrome and each displays the page momentarily then refreshes to the same page as Firefox. Seems it's a feature of the HTML file rather than a browser issue. I'll try some other things to find the issue. @cor-el thanks for your help.
