re :Saved files in windows. Old file
Profile folders are saved/stored by default here:
- C:\Users\<Windows user name>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\<Profile name>\
If you have already installed Thunderbird and run it once to create a new profile name folder, but not created any mail accounts because you want to use the backup in windows.old file:
Exit Thunderbird. Access backup in windows.old. Copy the Roaming/ 'Thunderbird' folder
Access the new location where new default profile is stored. C:\Users\<Windows user name>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\ Delete the default 'Thunderbird' folder. Paste the copied backup 'Thunderbird' folder into the 'Roaming' folder.
Start Thunderbird. This will copy over everything.
If you have already created new mail accounts and therefore only want to import certain mbox files:
mbox files do not have any extension and contain emails.
You can use an addon extension called ImportExportTools to import mbox files.
mbox files from an old pop account can be imported into a new pop account or Local Folders mail account. Imap account mbox files cannot be imported into a new imap account, they must be imported into 'Local Folders' mail account. Then if required, emails can be 'copied' into imap folders in order to put back on server.
