In the Inbox on Thunderbird, there are only about a month of emails and I would like to be able to search back as I am looking for photos that were sent to me from April 2017 and I have not saved.

The Sent box shows more emails than the Inbox. Why is that?

It seems you just leave messages in the Inbox. Have you thought about filing them?

Anyway…

Thunderbird can be set to store messages for an indefinite time. Check in account settings, under either "Disc space" or "Synchronization & Storage" if it's been set to remove messages beyond a certain age.

You also need to check if your email provider applies any routine housekeeping to your Inbox. They may be removing older messages for you.

Yes, I do file some specific emails but not everything that comes in.

I have done as you outlined and the box 'Don't delete any messages' is ticked. So, they must be still on the computer, somewhere! Where oh where is this elusive place .... SOMEWHERE?

Is this a pop or an imap mail account?

If imap, are the emails in a folder which you have not subscribed to see?

  • Right click on imap mail account in folder Pane and select 'Subscribe' to see list.
  • Select folder
  • click on 'Subscribe'
  • click on OK

Is this a gmail account ? Logon to webmail via a browser and see if the email is in the 'All Mail' folder. If yes then apply the 'Inbox' label. This should then get it visible in Thunderbird imap Inbox folder again.
