Tasks now appearing in the folder pane - can I hide them?

I recently received a couple of updates for Thunderbird. With v38.2 I noticed that the folder pane had gained a section for tasks and these are tasks that I manage via my Gmail account. (Screen dump attached with the problem area highlighted.

I have a different mechanism for following and managing tasks outside Thunderbird and really don't need to have this section in the folder pane.

However, search as I might, I cannot locate a setting to hide this.

Can anyone point to a means for removing the Tasks stuff in the folder pane?

Thanks.

Andrew

Clear.. Could it be this is actually part of another add-on, like gContactSync? Looking closer now, I can’t say the UI elements look familiar to me either, apart from the fact Lightning had a Minipane view in the left a while ago, but I doubt this will be a leftover.

How about starting Thunderbird in Safe Mode and see if it’s gone (or disable add-ons one by one)?

You are probably talking about the Lightning calendar add-on that’s being bundled with Thunderbird from version 38. Could it be that you overlooked a prompt asking you to install it when updating Thunderbird?

You should be able to disable or remove it like any other add-on in the Add-ons Manager using Tools - Add-ons - Extensions.

Thanks Tonnes. You might be right that the TASKS piece has arrived with Lightning. However, I've been using the Lightning add-on for as long as I can remember and certainly don't want to disable it. I just don't want the tasks area in the folder pane (as per the screen capture).

But thanks for the suggestion. Not quite the answer though.

As an aside... disabling the Lightning add-on did not remove the TASKS area from the folder pane.

Yes. In fact I wondered the same and identified an add-on that I had previously disabled but was reactivated with the Thunderbird update to v38.2

Thanks for bring a second perspective to the issue. Very helpful.
