Hi. I have tried almost anything that's suggested on the Internet - Cookies & history clearing, FF reset, all Add-ons removed, virus check, disabling graphic acceleration and can't remember how many more things I have done to resolve this issue in last couple of days. Nothing worked. After removing and freshly installed FF this issue was resolved temporarily but within no-time it started happening again. IE or Chrome is absolutely fine with these pages but not FF. I am so frustrated, considering the time wasted on this and the pain. I can give you a link or two, to see whats causing these pages not to load. It happened to many pages but due to clearing history, cookies and reinstalling FF I lost those records. I have been using FF for too many years and now getting fade up with updates etc where several times I had to do pain striking searches reinstall my add ons like FVD speed dials, bookmarks and some other third party web tools. Some I have lost for good. My question is, why can't it update within the system so all my saved work, functions, add-ons etc are still intact. Anyway, this blank page issue is killing me. I feel like, finally its time to say goodbye to FF (if not sorted). Your response with a genuine solution will be much appreciated. Thanks Shahin

Sorry to hear about this, it seems like you tried a lot of methods. I guess the one option is to revert to Firefox 28 temporarily. Firefox 29 is new so there will be bugs Firefox 28

Hi shahink36
Sorry you are having problems.

Reverting to Firefox 28 is not a recommended solution it is no longer supported or secure. I will add a note about that in the post above.

As a Windows user trying to quickly get a working Firefox back it may be worth you temporarily installing as an additional browser the unofficial and third party build Firefox Portable ESR whilst we work together with you on sorting out your issues.

Firefox itself may have some issues, and has many changes in the last update (About 4000 things !) Firefox does try to retain information and settings on updating, and often addons remain compatible with Firefox updates.

It may take some time and effort to get your Firefox running properly again as you have apparently had long standing problems and already tried hard to fix those.

Could I ask you to first of all back up your profile (That is a belts and braces step to reduce the chances of you losing anything important. ) . Secondly to create an new additional test profiles and thirdly to Then do a clean reinstall of Firefox the current Release Version Firefox 29.0.1

After doing that post back and we will see if we can get everything back to normal.

Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles Follow the guide in the linked article above. Place the profile folders and files somewhere safe outside Firefox profile and program paths, the Windows desktop would be suitable.

Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles It is good practice to

  • Use the default locations as suggested by Firefox.
Make sure not to nest profiles and use only an empty folder.
  • Choose a good simple name, maybe 2014-New-01
It is not wise to delete or rename a profile once it has been created. (At least not until you fully understand all the pitfalls )
  • I can explain how to use that new profile later

Reinstall Firefox 29.0.1 after deleting the program files and folders (Not the profile)

Please follow these steps:

Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.

  1. Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
  2. After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
  3. Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default: (Windows:)
    • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
  4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
    1. Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
    2. Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.

WARNING: Do not run Firefox's uninstaller or use a third party remover as part of this process, because that could permanently delete your Firefox data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. These cannot be recovered easily unless they have been backed up to an external device!

Have you tried to Start Firefox in Safe Mode ? {web link}

I'm encountering this problem in v30.0. Do not recall encountering it in 29. The first example is using Google search. After clicking a link then returning back to the search list, the screen is blank. This is intermittent; doesn't happen every time.

Now it's starting to happen to other sites where the initial screen is coming up blank.

Hi audierad, the problem of your Google results page blanking out when using the Back button is a different issue that has a known workaround.

This problem occurs when Firefox is zoomed more than two levels higher than the old default and you use the modern "instant prediction" results on Google (the ones that start filling in as you type, compared with the old mode of always needing to click the button or press Enter to run your search). Firefox's fast back-forward cache doesn't seem to work correctly with this combination, and when you go back, the results often get blanked (often you can see it happen, and reloading the page will restore them).

Assuming you like your current zoom level, you can force Firefox to re-parse the results page by changing a setting. This is not Google-specific and may slow down "Back" on all sites by some tiny amount of time. Here's how:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste sess and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewers preference and change the value from -1 to 0 (that's a zero).

(Please don't change any other similar-sounding settings to 0 or you may disable Firefox's ability to save/restore your open windows and tabs.)

Then reload the problem page. Hopefully after that you won't need to reload.

Does that work for you?

This solution may have fixed the Google issue. Since it was intermittent I can't be sure yet whether it will occur again or not. Time will tell.

This solution did nothing for my second problem with initial pages coming up blank for some websites.

I'm obviously not as advanced as you are. My question is, what do I do about it and how do I do it?

Yes, I did. The site is schwab.com. As it turns out, the problem was on my desktop only, it works on the laptop. Both use the same version of firefox. Since it was local to the desktop, I deleted all the Schwab cookies and tried it again and that solved the problem.

audierad, If you have a separate question it would help if you post another question again.

Try to use the problem machine when posting the question. If you like post back here to confirm you have asked a further question.
