I don't want firefox to control my life. It is forcing me to upgrade each time i open firefox even though ALL update options are turned off in OPTIONS (Advanced).

WTF.

How much control do you think you should exert? Shall I just dump you and go elsewhere?

The version of Firefox you are running isn't even the most current 3.6 update (you have 3.6.10, the last one was 3.6.28) and it is on an unsupported version of Firefox (Firefox 12 is the only supported version). This means by not updating you are opening yourself up to major security holes

https://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox.html has a list of vulnerabilities fixed since Firefox 4, https://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox36.html has the same for 3.6.

Besides security issues, you also are open to several known website rendering bugs, crashes, etc. and can't take advantage of new improvements such as reduced memory usage, improved performance, hardware acceleration, etc.

Is there a specific reason you don't want to update? I would be happy to help you work it out so we can get you up and running.
