Bookmarked sites do not appear on my list of bookmarks, but I can see them when I go to "Organize Bookmarks"

I often bookmark a site and choose either the general list of bookmarks or one of my folders. When I later go to access the bookmark I can't find it. If I go to "Organize Bookmarks" I can often see the site listed on the list of bookmarks...but when I back out to use the bookmarks tab it no longer appears. I have checked my plug-ins, checked for updates, checked the other discussion threads. I'm out of ideas.

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
