Any Word on Floating Videos ? They're Making a Comeback!

more options

Any word on floating videos ? Have been asking for several years. Any progress on that front yet ? They're making a comeback and are as annoying as ever. Have been through all Settings tweaks etc -- nothing has ever worked. One of the most annoying user problems in the world and almost nothing has been done that I can see. Others trying to Sucker me into Chrome or Edge, which they claim are perfect and totally privacy oriented.

Lots of websites used the CSS rule position: fixed to lock elements in place so they stay in view when you start scrolling or scroll past a certain point in a page. (On this site, it is used to keep the page header visible.)

I don't think Firefox can implement a fail-safe feature to block sites from using fixed positioning without breaking things, so for now, and probably for the foreseeable future, the uBlock Origin "Annoyances" list would be your best bet.

OK ! Looking for anything new on the insidious floating videos. Is that allowed after a few years ?

This has been going on for years now -- unstoppable floating videos -- and is a very compelling issue. As a programmer myself I am having doubts. Does your organization even have people capable of solving this problem ? Get a lot of verbiage and missives to queries on this subject but nothing ever concrete.

I wanted to post a new question because the old ones got blown off. Get that part ?

If you know how to solve the conundrum I identified in my reply here:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1418906#answer-1591840

then please file a bug with your solution here:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/

or at least share your proposal here:

https://connect.mozilla.org/

And until further notice, you can use uBlock Origin + Annoyances list, which is how you had solved the problem before.
