what sounds like happened is that your master file table had a duplicate entry but physically, there were never 2 individual folders.

so when you deleted one of the folders, you actually just deleted the double entry in the master file table, which then caused you to think a second folder was deleted.

another example of master file table corruption is that hard disk may actually have a folder on it. but if the master file table doesnt index it, then you will never see it.

try running a check disk and it will re-index the master file table. then try to do a disk defrag to help clear up disk space, which is sometimes inferred as "memory" by not so smart programs.
