On August 1, 2016 we will simplify the Firefox Yahoo Toolbar and upgrade your browser to the New Tab by Yahoo extension experience. This extension provides a static version of Yahoo Toolbar and customizes your new tab page with Flickr photos and quick access to your top sites. Please note, you will no longer be able to modify your toolbar layout.

To get the pre-August 1 bar back, you could try this:

(1) Instally the July 26th version of the toolbar from the following page:

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/yahoo-toolbar-and-new-tab/versions/

Firefox likely will mention restarting to complete the installation. Before restarting Firefox:

(2) Turn off automatic updating for the extension on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then on the right side find the Yahoo toolbar -- I think it will be under one entry and not two entries, but we're in new territory here...

Click the tiny More link under the title Yahoo toolbar, then on that next page, find the row for Automatic Updates and set it to Off.

Then you can use the restart link for the toolbar to complete the installation.

Success?

Im not sure how to access the static toolbar/my new tab. I was on my yahoo home page and saw it was able to go to it and add my yahoo bookmarks, ebay and youtube videos. but couldn't add amazon or facebook for quick access. Couldn't access the new tab unless I was on the my yahoo page. Is there a tutorial page or instructions page?

Where can I see my bookmarks on Yahoo?

Sign in to My Yahoo. Click on the "Add Content" button and add the "Bookmarks" module to your page to see your links.

That's about as far as I can help you. I don't use Yahoo for anything.

Feature changes in the add-on

- Customized layout

You’ll no longer be able to personalize the layout or shortcuts listed in the toolbar section of the add-on.

- Personal bookmarks

You can still access your bookmarks from My Yahoo.

  • Sign in to My Yahoo.
  • Click Add Content.
  • Add “Bookmarks” to see your bookmarks on the My Yahoo page.

Alternatively, you can export your bookmarks so you can import them into a browser directly.

Sounds like Yahoo is "tying you" to using their MyYahoo page for using their bookmarks system.

please read my former question. I figured out how to access my yahoo bookmarks. I added them to the new tab page but I cant figure out how to add my favorite sites to this new static tab. or how to access it from any web page accept for my yahoo page. I could add ebay and you tube but not facebook or amazon. The tutorial link you gave me only says how to get your yahoo bookmarks.

What's that "gear" for in the lower-right corner of the "New Tab by Yahoo" page? How about clicking it and see what it does. My guess is that it an "options" panel or "controls" for configuring the New Tab page.

Beyond that, how about using Yahoo help https://help.yahoo.com/kb/toolbar
