Newly downloaded and installed Firefox doesn't have Portable Document File format option in the Content Type listing. I have downloaded Adobe Reader 11 which is working fine parallely. The Plug-in's and Add-Ons have all been set correctly.

It may be possible to add one or set the preference on which app to open. Firefox's default is the pdf.js viewer. Applications panel - Set how Firefox handles different types of files
